What Iranian Women Looked Like Before the Islamic Revolution in 1979

Avatar

Just half a century ago, Iran was a secular state. Women used to wear swimsuits and mini skirts, they could freely communicate with men, and get an education. Needless to say, the country was developing quickly. But in 1979, the Islamic revolution happened and everything changed dramatically.

We at Viral section don’t intend to discuss politics here, we just want to show you the amazing level of freedom this country has had in the past.

#KafaDergi 🦋 #womens #womensday #iran #iran1979

Bonus: Vogue photo shoot in Iran, 1969

In December 1969, 10 years before the Islamic Revolution, the fashion photographer Henry Clarke took a series of photos in Iran, from Shiraz to Isfahan and Tehran. Featuring models Marisa Berenson, Lauren Hutton and Cynthia Korman with the amazing colors and beautiful architecture of iranian mosques. History and unique landscape made the series a unique moment of fashion. The charming girls, the colors and the artistic talent of Clarke made the photos extremely poetic and historical. Iran before the Islamic Revolution of 1979 was quite a different country from the one we see today. It was secular, Western-oriented and allowed a certain amount of cultural freedom. #irantransformation #fashioniran #1969 #1970 #moderniran #photographyiniran #iranbeforerevolution #shiraz #isfahan #tehran #vogueiran #vogue #persepolice #irstyle #iranstyle
